Austria's south

The sunny side of the alpine country

If you want to combine your cycling holiday with a visit to well-known cities, fairy-tale castles and beautiful lake landscapes, you are in good hands on a cycling tour around the Carinthian lakes. Start your cycling holiday in Villach, the second largest city in Carinthia. The city not only offers a breathtaking mountain panorama, but also enchants visitors with its Mediterranean flair.

Villach is also a dream for cyclists. A wheel butler provides secure and guarded parking for your bikes, so you can explore the city on foot. With the Karawanken in view you cycle to the first lake of your cycle tour. Take a break at the turquoise Lake Faaker See and explore the lake by canoe. One of the closest lakes to cycle around is Lake Ossiach. In Ossiach you should visit the former Benedictine monastery with the beautiful baroque church. After leaving the Villach region, you cycle to Lake Wörthersee, the most popular lake in Austria.

From Wörthersee you have a fantastic view of an impressive mountain scenery. Through the Keutschacher Seental you cycle to the state capital Klagenfurt. Here you can marvel at more than 150 miniature models of famous buildings from all over the world in the "Minimundus - the little world on Lake Wörthersee". Past Ebenthal Castle and Schloss Fragenstein, you will reach the Völkermarkter Reservoir and finally Lake Klopeiner. The lake is also known as one of the warmest lakes in Austria. Take a break from your bike ride to relax here while bathing. Through a gently rolling landscape you drive towards Maria Saal, Carinthia's most impressive fortified church before you come to St. Veit an der Glan.

Worth seeing are the dreamy streets and the fairy-tale castle Hochosterwitz, the most impressive landmark of Carinthia. Along the Glan and via Glanegg you return to the Ossiacher See before returning to Villach and thus to the starting point of your cycle tour.
