The Danube Cycle Path

From Passau to Vienna

The Danube Cycle Path from Passau to Vienna is probably one of the most beautiful bike paths in Austria or the whole of Europe. If you want to enjoy a relaxed cycling holiday in Austria and still want to be active in sports, then you are in the right place on this section of the Danube Bike Trail. On about 350 kilometers of bike it goes on well-developed bike paths mostly flat there, ideal conditions so also for families with children or beginners.

By taking you from room to room luggage transport for you, you will have more time and energy to admire the breathtaking scenery and the numerous historical highlights along the way. The starting point of the Danube Bike Path is the Bavarian university town Passau, known for the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz. Not for nothing Passau is also referred to as the Three Rivers City. Absolutely worth seeing are the magnificent cathedral of St. Stephen with the largest cathedral organ in the world and the Veste Oberhaus, from which you have a breathtaking view over the whole city.

On the way to Linz, you cycle directly past another fascinating natural spectacle. At the Schlögener Schlinge the Danube gives the impression to suddenly change direction. In Linz, the provincial capital of Upper Austria, you should plan a city tour through the historic old town and enjoy a slice of Linzer Torte in one of the many cozy cafes. Passing the Mauthausen Memorial and the wildly romantic Strudengau, you will reach one of the most beautiful cultural landscapes in Lower Austria. From Melk to Krems, there is the UNESCO World Heritage Site Wachau, known as the winegrowing region and for the annual apricot harvest. After a long day of cycling, enjoy a walk through the beautiful vineyards.

The Kunstmeile Krems, garden city Tulln and Klosterneuburg will take you to the cosmopolitan city of Vienna, famous for its coffeehouse culture and the terminus of the Danube Bike Path from Passau to Vienna. A stay of several days should definitely be planned in the former imperial city, in order to be able to visit in peace the numerous sights such as the Schönbrunn Palace, St. Stephen's Cathedral or the Vienna Prater with the Giant Ferris Wheel.
